On Tuesday morning, a team of Central Bureau of Investigation officials went to the Delhi Secretariat, which houses the office of Kejriwal and other ministers, and conducted a raid on the third floor. This is where Kejriwal's office is located.
The CBI maintained that it had obtained a court warrant and was conducting raids on 14 locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in connection with corruption charges against Kejriwal’s principal secretary Rajendra Kumar. The agency alleged Kumar had abused his official position by favouring a particular firm and giving it tenders from Delhi government departments. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley made a similar statement in the Rajya Sabha.
But Kejriwal did not buy into this explanation. He went on to post acerbic tweets throughout the day targeting the agency and the central government, including one that called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “coward and a psychopath”. He alleged that Jaitley and the agency were lying and claimed that his own files were being looked into in a case of political vendetta.
While the chat on Twitter initially focused on what would be found at Kejriwal’s office, including cracks about pirated DVDs, it gradually moved to humorous speculation about what would happen if other public figures were raided. From politicians to actors to sportspersons, no one was spared in this endeavour. Here’s a selection:
